Yesterday I travelled to Cheltenham to help the legendary John Kilcoyne, otherwise known as Brainiac’s ‘man in the shed’ with some demonstrations at the 2011 Cheltenham Science Festival. I was mostly carrying his dewars, canisters and powders about the place, but actually it was just a pleasure just to see the man at work. The combination of his drôle Bradford accent, a dose of science factoids and some horrifyingly loud explosions was an absolute winner.
For a science geek like me, cheltenham science festival is hugely fun. The atmosphere crackles with intellectualism, the smell of coffee from the Times cafe is irresistible and there’s always an interesting talk or demo about to start nearby. I thought some photos I took during my visit to the festival might could give a flavour of the mood. Here they are.
